TB cases increasing in Nunavik community

The number of active tuberculosis cases in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Nunavik, has risen to 68.

The number of active tuberculosis cases in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Nunavik, has risen to 68.

The small northern Quebec community of less than 900 people has been experiencing an outbreak of the disease.

Almost 20 new cases of TB were reported in the past month.

Field epidemiologists from the Public Health Agency of Canada have been sent to the community. Health officials have been providing extra resources, including a mobile X-ray machine.

Officials are working with community leaders to address the outbreak.
