Thieves steal ATV, snowmobile from Yukon trapline camp

Thieves made off with items including an ATV, a snowmobile and a woodstove when a log home on the Alaska Highway was broken into in mid-January.

Thieves made off with items including an ATV, a snowmobile, a canvas tent and awoodstovewhen alog home on the Alaska Highway was broken into in mid-January.

Andrea Fischer and her husband, Ryan Sealy, own a trapline base camp at Annie Ned Creek, near Mendenhall between Whitehorse andHainesJunction.

Fischer says her family has been using their trapline for almost two decades.

They were away breaking trail for the Yukon Quest sled dog racewhen the break-in occurred sometime between Jan. 12 and 22.There was damage done to the driveway gate and the residence door.

"There had been the heavy snowfall so there were no tracks," she said.

Fischer and her husband say $10,000 worth of trapping equipment was stolen, including:

  • a green Suzuki King Quad 300 ATV, with winch
  • a green long-track Yamaha Bravo snowmobile(the quad and Bravo are chained together with heavy titanium chain and a solid lock that covers the chain)
  • a 12 X 14 Fort McPherson canvas wall tent with zipper door, a factory stove pipe hole in door and a sewn-in stove pipe hole in roof. Children'scrayon scribbles can be seen on the inside walls
  • a 24 airtight "hippy killer" woodstove and sections of 6 pipe
  • pair of white army snowshoes with light-coloured rubber one piece harness
  • pair of wooden toddler snowshoes with red leather harness
  • pair of wooden adult snowshoes with one-piece black innertube harness
  • a 257 Husqvarna chainsaw
  • a 5 crosscut saw
  • Shed elk antlers
  • Hudson Bay Company wool blankets blue with black stripe, red with black stripe, cream with pink stripe. (family heirlooms)
  • a turquoise 4" high snowmobile skimmer with white tow rope

As the residence is visible from the highway, and the thefts would have taken time, Whitehorse RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact the detachment,or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
