The N.W.T.'s Transportation minister is visiting the Sahtu region today to get a first hand look at the regions winter roads.

Tom Beaulieu will drive from Norman Wells to Fort Good Hope and Tulita.

I've had the MLA ask me several times over the last year," he says. "Last year we were unable to do it, this year again for me to come down, drive the winter road, to get a feel for what the region has to deal with on the winter road.

Beaulieu says he'll address other transportation, public works and human resources issues at public meetings in each community.

He plans to talk about the proposed Mackenzie Valley Highway on Thursday in Norman Wells.

He says both the territorial government and groups in the Sahtu community have submitted proposals regarding the highway to the federal government.

It's not yet clear if there are any updates to those proposals.
