Tom Sammurtok resigns as Nunavut cabinet minister

Tom Sammurtok, MLA for Rankin Inlet North-Chesterfield Inlet, has resigned as a cabinet minister, the Nunavut legislative assembly announcedWednesday.

Sammurtok resigned Tuesday during a caucus meeting.

He will continue to serve as an MLA.

Sammurtok was stripped of his cabinet portfolio last month after being charged with drunk driving.

Caucus chairSteve Mapsalaksaid the size of cabinet will remainat eight, with no new ministers appointed,until the mid-term leadership review in the fall when cabinet size will be discussed.
