RCMP lay child pornography charges against 2 men in different N.W.T. communities

A man from Tulita, N.W.T., whose name RCMP did not release, faces three charges related to child pornography. A man in Fort Smith faces two charges.

A 24-year-old Tulita man was arrested Monday by N.W.T. RCMPon child pornography offences. The next day, RCMP arrested a 22-year-old man in Fort Smith on similar offences.

In two news releases Wednesday, RCMPannounced the arrests cameas a result ofinvestigations by the territory'sInternet Child Exploitation Unit. The two investigationsare not related, said Julie Plourde, a media relations officer with the RCMP.

RCMPsaid they will not be releasing the Tulita man's name to protect the identity of the victim, citing the "size of thecommunity and the nature of the charges."

Thatman is charged with sexual interference, possession of child pornography, and making child pornography. RCMP said they carried out a search warrant at the man's home, where police seized electronic devices.

In Fort Smith, police charged Marcus Bourkewith two counts of luring and two counts of possession of child pornography after executing a search warrant for electronic devices at a residencein that community.

Police say Bourkewas arrested without incident, and has since been released on "strict conditions." He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20, 2020.
