Violent N.W.T. man to stay in Edmonton halfway house

A man who brutally attacked two young girls on a Yellowknife walking trail will stay under the watchful eyes of authorities almost 10 years after the attacks.

Travis Casaway was 15 when he grabbed two girls, aged 11 and 12,off the Frame Lake Trail and sexually assaulted them in separate incidents just nine days apart.

He finished serving his five-year prison sentence in 2009, but then became subject to a long-term supervision order.

Casaway, who is now 23, has been living at a halfway house in Edmonton ever since.

In a decision last month, the Parole Board of Canada said Casaway has to stay there and cannot yet live on his own because he is still too high a risk to re-offend.

Court ordered him to continue living at the halfway house for at least the next three months. The long-term supervision order gives authorities control over Casaway for another two years.
