The Whitehorse teen who killed Brandy Vittrekwa in 2014 has been sentenced for assault and damaging property offencescommitted while he was waiting to be sentenced for manslaughter.

But the16-year-old won't serve any additional time in custody because he's already serving a maximum three-year sentence for manslaughter. He cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The additional charges stem from an incident last February at the Whitehorse Youth Detention Centre.

There was a dispute during a volleyball game and the youth punched a supervisor in the head and destroyed a stereo. The sentencingjudge agreed with the prosecutor and defence lawyer, that a90-day sentence served concurrently with his manslaughter sentencewas appropriate.

If he responds positively to treatment over the next two years, he may serve the final year of his sentence under supervision in the community.

The boy was 15 when he beat 17-year-oldVittrekwa unconscious in December2014, and left her to die in the snow.
