Robert Palmer, a spokesperson for the airline, saidin an emailWestJetwill havethree flights per week, Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, betweenMay 11 and Oct. 24.

WestJet had been flying daily between the two cities during the summer, startingin 2012.

Pierre Germain of Yukon's department ofTourism says he understandsWestJetis in acompetitivebusiness, and must respond accordingly.

And he says visitors still have lots of choice when booking travel to Yukon.

"Air arrivals are making up a larger and larger percentage of our visitation on an annual basis," Germain says. "Last year, visitation at Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport set a new record."

WestJetsays it will re-evaluate its decisionin the fall.
