At least 60 people living in the Whistle Bend subdivision of Whitehorse have signed a petition asking for increased ciybus service in their neighbourhood.

Victoria Castillo says since her 72-year-old mother moved in with her, she's become aware how isolated they are Whistle Bend.

"I mean Whistle Bend is a beautiful place and I don't ever feel trapped there, but if you take the bus to town in the morning there's no way to get home because there is no bus back."

Castillo says the existing bus service seems geared to students.

She's contacted the city about increased serviceand says she's been told it's adequate for now.

"But I don't know how they decided this because this community is growing so quickly. There's over 200 people living here now and [it's] time to take into consideration there's people there who need services."

Castillo says she has gonedoor-to-door collecting signatures and expects to collect more before petitioning city council when it next reviews its budgetin October.
