Whitehorse ATCO Electric customers targeted by phone scammers

Whitehorse business owners are being targeted by telephone scammers claiming to be calling from ATCO Electric.

Stephanie Cunha, with ATCO Electric, says the caller threatens action against the business owner.

"Individuals are threatening the immediate disconnection of their powerif they do not go to Canada Post to purchase a pay safe card and transfer payment for their overdue account over the internet."

Cunha says a similar situation happened in May, and business owners have been contacting ATCO Electric about the latest calls.

She says anyone who receives such a call should also report it tothe Canadian Anti-Fraud Centreat 1-888-495-8501.
