Whitehorse Boys and Girls Club flooded with donations following break-in
Thieves made off with video games and trashed building
The Whitehorse Boys and Girls Club is cleaning up after a break and enter.
This week staff discovered someonesmashed a window to get in. Executive director Duncan Johnstonesaysa club employee discovered the damage when she arrived for work Thursday morning.
"[They] damaged some of the computers on the way in, stole the video came consoles and a bunch of games and some movies," he says. "We're still kinda putting together the list of everything that was stolen as well as a laptop and phone."
The building was also trashed. Eggs and spices from the kitchen were smeared throughout the building.Johnstonesayshe estimates the damage from lost and stolen goods is between $3,000 and $5,000.
Johnstone saysthe community response has been outstanding. There have been many offers of donations since yesterday.
"We've got a great community around us," he says. "They're really coming together and helping us out. [The break-in] minimally impacted our services."
Johnstone sayssomeone has already offered to replace the video game consoles and that more donations are coming.
