Deceased man was victim of homicide, Whitehorse RCMP say

Police say 51-year-old Clayton Benoit was brought to the Whitehorse General Hospital on August 30 with injuries, and died later that day. The Yukon RCMP Major Crime Unit has now taken over the investigation.

RCMPin Whitehorse say they are now investigating a deathlast week as a homicide.

Police say 51-year-old Clayton Benoitwas injured and brought to Whitehorse General Hospital on August 30, and died later that day from hisinjuries.

On Thursday,RCMPissued a statement to media clarifying that ahomicide did not occur at the hospital.

An investigation by police and the coronerbegan soon after Benoit'sdeath, and an autopsy was done in Vancouver on Tuesday.

The Yukon RCMPMajor Crime Unit has now taken over the investigation.

Benoit was originally from the N.W.T. but had been living in Whitehorse "for some time", according to police.
