Whitehorse marchers show support for Quebec students

More than 60 people in Whitehorse marched in front of the Elijah Smith Building with their pots and pans last night.

Natalie Edelson carried her recorder as she took part in what's known as "les casseroles" in support of students who are protesting in Quebec.

The Whitehorse march was one of many held across the country Wednesday night.

Lewis Rifkind, who was among the crowd, said he supports the Quebec students protest against tuition and is alarmed by the restrictions placed on demonstrations in that province.

"When a segment of Canadian population has their rights curtailed, I mean, who's next? What similar circumstances could arise in the Yukon where we too could see our rights curtailed? So if the rights of one bunch of Canadians are restricted, the rights of all Canadians are restricted," said Rifkind.

Organizers said there are more protests planned for Whitehorse.
