Woman struck by car in downtown Whitehorse crosswalk

A 60-year-old woman is in hospital after she was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk at Main Street and Third Avenue in Whitehorse this morning.

A 60-year-old woman is in hospital after being struck by a car onMain Street in downtown Whitehorse Wednesdaymorning.

The collision happened just after 10 a.m. at the ThirdAvenue crosswalk.

Julie Lachapelle was one of a number ofwitnesses.

"That car was coming on Thirdto Main and ...obviously she didn't see the lady and she hit her and she flew in the air about 10 feet," she said. "It was a bad hit."

Traffic at the intersection was blocked off temporarilyas paramedics tended to the victim and police investigated the scene.

RCMP Const. Dean Hooglandsays the woman's injuries werenot life-threatening.

He says the incident is under investigation.
