A wounded grizzly bear is on the loose north of Whitehorse, in the area of the North Klondike Highway and 10 Mile Road.

Environment Yukon says the bear may pose a risk to humans and is asking residents to report any sightings to conservation officers as soon as possible.

A resident shot the bear in defence Friday morning. Conservation officers were unable to locate the wounded bear.

The department is also reminding Yukoners to secure garbage and compost bins as bears are actively foraging for food.

Bear sightings can be reported to Environment Yukon's TIPPline at 1-800-661-0525.
