Yellowknife cancels Franklin Avenue bike lane

Yellowknife officials have cancelled plans for bike lanes on Franklin Avenue between 46 Street and Macdonald Drive due to narrowness of the street and road surface issues.

Officials say Old Town road too narrow and rough

Yellowknife cyclists will not get a bike lane on Franklin Avenue from downtown toOld Town this year after all.

The city had planned to create bike lanes on Franklin Avenue between 46 Street and Macdonald Drive. But city officials say the road was found to be too narrow in places and there are dips and gravel patches unsuitable for bicycles.

The city is now planning to consult residents on a bicycling strategy that could be incorporated into the 2014 budget.

One plan under consideration would be a bike lane on 52 Avenue from Franklin Avenue to 56 Street.
