Yellowknife RCMP lay charges in Borden Drive fentanyl seizure

RCMP have charged a 22-year-old Yellowknife man with drug trafficking and criminal negligence causing bodily harm in connection with the discovery of furanyl fentanyl at a Borden Drive home last weekend.

RCMP in protective suits outside a Borden Drive home in Yellowknife on Saturday. Specialists from the Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) teams in British Columbia and Alberta were flown in to help with the search. (RCMP)

RCMPhave charged a 22-year-old Yellowknife man with drug trafficking and criminal negligence causing bodily harm in connection with the discovery of furanyl fentanyl at a Borden Drive home last weekend.

Police say an unknown powder seized from a Borden Drive home on Saturday was identified as furanyl fentanyl, an opioid analgesic that is an analog of fentanyl. (RCMP)

While investigating a series of near-fatal drug overdoses last week, police obtained a search warrant for the residence.

An unknown powder was seized and sent for testing in B.C. It was found to be furanyl fentanyl,an opioid analgesic that is an analog of fentanyl.

Darcy Oake, 22, has been charged with:

  • unlawfully importing a substance in Schedule 1 Section 6 of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • trafficking a substance in Schedule 1 Section 5 of the CDSA
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking Section 5
  • causing bodily harm by criminal negligence
  • breach of recognizance

Package from China

RCMP also say theCanada Border Services Agency seized a package from China at itsmail processing plant in Vancouver on Monday. The package contained furanyl fentanyl and was destined for Yellowknife.

Police believethe package is linked to this investigation.
