Yellowknife RCMP officer charged with assault

Const. Cory Wallace is facing assault charges following an RCMP investigation that started after a prisoner was injured back in March.

A member of the RCMP in Yellowknife is facing assault charges after a prisoner was injured.

A Yellowknife RCMP officer has been charged with assault.

Const. Cory Wallaceis facing assault charges followingan RCMP investigation that started in March.

According to a news release, the RCMP were escorting a prisoner from the Yellowknife courthouse, when that prisoner was injured.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Barry Ledoux says theforce won't be releasing details of the prisoners injuries, or say how they found out about the assault.

"At this time and due to the nature of the investigation we will not be releasing that information. That, again, is a part of the investigation that will come out later in the process," Ledoux said.

"G" Division's Major Crime unit conducted the investigation and handed its report over to crown counsel.

The news release says the evidence supported charging one officer.

Wallace has been working with Yellowknife RCMP for three years.Hehas been on administrative duties in Yellowknife since the investigation beganand will remain on administrative duties until the completion of the matter, the RCMP said in the news release.

He is due to appear in court onSept. 17th, 2013.
