The government of Yukon is amending its hunting rules for caribou and Dall sheep to better protect the animals.

The changes will allow a limited permit hunt for Dall sheep in the Kusawa area.

Hunters will only be allowed to take bull caribou from the Bonnet Plume, Tay and Redstone herds.

Three sub-zones of the Chisana caribou herd will be closed to hunting this year.

Environment Minister Currie Dixon said government is acting on recommendations from the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board, which is intended to reflect the views of the public, hunters and renewable resources councils.
