Yukon College app allows students to call security, sound panic alarm
App will soon allow students to check grades, reserve library books
Yukon College has launched a new social media app that will connect students to safety and security information, campus maps, academic resources and orientation-week activities.
The app was developed alongside the Ayamdigutcampus'emergency response plan in Whitehorse.
Users can quickly connect to college security officers or call 911; they canreport suspicious behavior or wildlife activity oruse their device as a flashlight or panicalarm.
The app also lets students book counselling appointments, as well as access the college's online learning management system. Users will also receive a text message if there is an emergency situation on campus.
"We will be encouraging our students to download it," said Erin Johnston, project manager for the app's development.
"We have already rolled it out to our staff and so thefeedback has been great."
The college plans to add more features to the app, including information on student activities, an events calendar, bus schedules, McIntyre Creek trail maps and the daily Kinnikinnick Kaff menu.
It will also allow students to check their grades, reserve library books and schedule appointments with instructors.
