1 new COVID-19 case in Yukon, 2 others probable

One new case of COVID-19 in Yukon and two other probable cases were announced Tuesday by Yukon's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brendan Hanley.

There's one new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Yukon and two other probable cases.

The cases wereannounced in a news release from the territory's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brendan Hanleyon Tuesday afternoon.

It brings the territory's total confirmed casesto 88 since the pandemic began.

There aresix active cases in Yukon as of Tuesday evening.Two of the infected people arecurrently in the hospital, according to thenews release.

All three of the newly-announced cases on Tuesday were identified in Whitehorse and all are isolating.

Contact tracing is ongoingandpotential public exposures will be announcedif any are identified, the release says.

There are no new cases at Victoria Gold mine in Yukon. The threepositiveCOVID-19 cases identified on the weekend involvethe P.1 (Gamma) variant of concern and the infectedpeople remain in isolation.

Public exposure notice

A public exposure notice wasissued Tuesday evening just after 8 p.m. for several Whitehorse locations.

According to a bulletin from the chief medical officer of health, people may have been exposed to COVID-19 if they were at any of the following places:

  • The Casa Loma Motel Bar on Saturday, May 29, between 9 p.m. andclosing;onMonday, May 31, between 11 p.m. and closing; or on Saturday, June 5, between 8:30 p.m. andmidnight.
  • Whiskey Jacks Pub & Grill onFriday, May 28, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30p.m., or on Saturday, June 5, between 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
  • Walmart on Sunday, June 6, between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., or between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  • Canadian Tire on Sunday, June 6, between 1 p.m. and2 p.m.

Anyone who was at those locations who is experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms should self-isolate and remain at home, take the online self-assessment and arrange to get tested either by calling 867-393-3083 or booking a test online here.

Rural Yukon residents should contact their community health centre to arrange for testing if needed.
