Yukon francophone school board seeks expansion

Yukon's francophone school board is holding public consultations this week on expanding the territory's only French-language school.

The Commission scolaire francophone du Yukonsays it's running out of space at cole Emilie Tremblay.The school has room for 150 students and the francophone school board would like to make room for 50 more.

Edmond Ruest, the board's interim director, says the school board is considering different options for a secondary school.

"One option is that the new building be on the grounds of coleEmilie Tremblay," he said. "Another option is somewhere else, in Copper Ridge; there's another educational reserve in Whistle Bend and another option that's been discussed is the possibility of joining forces with the new F.H. Collins."

A partnership at the site of the new F.H. Collins school would likely mean the creation of a French wing. Students would share facilities, such as science labs to save costs.
