Yukon government wants to evict alleged bootlegger

An allegedWhitehorse bootlegger has been ordered to stop selling from his Porter Creek home.

Marius Moustakas recycles and deals in used goods from his cluttered property on Centennial Street, but investigators with the government's public safety branch said most of his sales are booze and drugs.

Yukon Liquor officials said Moustakas purchases about $2,000 of alcohol a month. Video surveillance evidence suggests he re-sells it at inflated prices from his home.

Undercover investigatorsclaim Moustakas also offers a variety of narcotics for sale, if asked.

The government is using its Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act to prosecute the man. The complaint-driven civil legislation ismeant to focus more on the effects of an activity on a community, not the activity itself.

The governmentis asking to have Moustakas evicted for 90 days.

On Tuesday morning, Justice Ron Vealegave Moustakas two months to get a lawyer for that argument.

In the meantime,Moustakas has agreed to shut down liquor sales.
