Yukon judge orders hunting guide to forfeit payment

A Yukon territorial judge has ordered a Yukon woman to give up a riverboat, motor and trailer she received in exchange for guiding visitors on a moose hunt.

Madeleine Caissy arranged to take some Quebec residents huntingunder the special guiding provisions of the Wildlife Act.

The provisions allow Yukoners to take out-of-territory friends and relatives hunting. However asking for compensation is illegal.

Conservation Officer Ken Knutson says Caissy's clients were not aware of the rule at first, but filed a formal complaint after being informed.

"The people who were guidedrealized what was happening. Theycame in and made a formal complaint to us," he says.

Knutson says hunters harvested two moose legally during the hunt.

However, a boat, motor and trailer, valued at about $9,500 are forfeited to the government.
