Yukon Party leader Darrell Pasloski was a political neophyte when he won by the riding by 104 votes in 2011. Liberal Jeanie Dendys and the NDP's Shaunagh Stikeman hope the political winds have shifted.

About the Mountainviewriding

Mountainview is aridingcreated after the Electoral DistrictBoundaries Commission report of2008.It includes the McIntyre, Granger, Valleyview and Hillcrest neighbourhoods in Whitehorse as well as the Kwanlin Dn First Nation administrative offices and the First Nation's subdivision (McIntyre).

In 2011, newly-minted Yukon Party leader Darrell Pasloski won by a 10 per cent margin over well-known NDP candidate Stephen Dunbar-Edge.

Because this is the premier's seat, it will be closely watched.AYukon Party loss here could well indicate trouble for the ruling party.

The CBC contacted all candidates to ask why they were the best person to elect in this riding, and how would they improve it.

Jeanie Dendys Liberal

Jeanie Dendysis currently the director of justice for the Kwanlin Dn First Nation, and has served as the Yukon representative to the RCMP Commissioner'sFirst Nation Policy Advisory Board. She is a member of the Tahltan First Nation, and has beenpresident of the Yukon Indian Hockey Associationfor several years.

"Born and raised in the Yukon, I consider myself a part of this land and I will work hard to represent all Yukon interests.

"I bring a strong combination of youthful enthusiasm and real community-building experience. I look forward to building a shared Yukon vision through respectful partnerships at every level. I will contribute to creating safer, more inclusive neighbourhoods that provide healthy program options for families. Our Yukon public service needs our support to serve the community and I will make sure that respect is the foundation of our work.

"I have been inspired by what I have heard within my Mountainview riding. The issues people are talking about can be solved if we are creative and harness good working relationships with our partners.I believe that we are on the brink of creating an exciting new chapter in the Yukon: let this be the chapter of reconciliation and renewed relationships."

DarrellPasloski Yukon Party

Darrell Pasloskiran for the Conservative Party of Canadain the 2008 federal election. He became leader of the Yukon Party and was elected MLA in 2011. He has a degree in pharmacy from the University of Saskatchewan and has owned and operated two pharmacies in Whitehorse. In 2009, Pasloski was named Business Person of the Year by the Yukon Chamber of Commerce.

"Since 2011, I have been honoured to serve all Yukoners as premier, and particularly my constituents as MLA for Mountainview. Giving back to the community has always been a part of my life through volunteering, supporting community organizations, and helping Yukon families get the health care they need.

"Having served on numerous boards and councils, including the Vanier Catholic Secondary School Council, MacBride Museum, Whitehorse Glacier Bears Swim Club, Canada Winter Games and Swim Yukon, I know first hand how hardworking Yukon's volunteers are. As Premier I have made it a priority to still give back to the community by volunteering my time to local sports by officiating swim meets and hockey.

"I have been fortunate to live in the Mountainview riding for 21 years and raise four children with my wife, Tammie.As MLA and premier, I will continue to be the voice of my constituents, while supporting a strong local economy through protecting our resource industry, investing in schools and health care, keeping taxes low, saying no to a carbon tax and protecting our Yukon way of life."

ShaunaghStikeman NDP

Shaunagh Stikemanhas a B.A. in women's studies and political science from McGillUniversity, and a law degree from the University of Victoria. She has worked as a lawyer for Justice Canada in B.C. and now works at the department ofIndigenous and Northern Affairs.

"I believe that I would bring a fresh, optimistic energy that is needed in the legislature to tackle the difficult choices the next government will have to make.

"My background working with Yukon First Nations as a lawyer would contribute well to rebuilding the relationship with First Nation governments. We must invest in a sustainable economy that creates jobs and prepares Yukon for the future.

"Also, I have listened to neighbours throughout Mountainview speak of the need to fix our broken health care and build a community where no one is left behind. I want to put the needs of our community first and maintain an open dialogue with our neighbours about how to continually improve our community."
