Yukon Zinc gets week extension before court date

Yukon Zinc, which owns the Wolverine Mine near Watson Lake and is under creditor protection, has been granted a week's extension to a stay of proceedings by the B.C. Supreme Court.

Yukon Zinc has been granted a week's extensionto a stay of proceedings by the B.C. Supreme Courtand will now return to court this Friday.

The mining company is under creditor protection after closing its Wolverine Minenear Watson Lake, Yukon.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is the court-appointed monitor of Yukon Zinc's creditor protection process. According a report by the monitor, Yukon Zinc's CEO Jingyou Lu has travelled to China to meet with the controlling shareholder.

Meanwhile,PricewaterhouseCoopers has come to the Yukon to visit the Wolverine site to understand the current environmental and safety issues.

Italso met with the Yukon Government and held a meeting with Yukon Zinc and territorial officials in early April. It says Yukon Zinc pledged co-operation to address the concerns and the regulatory requirements of the government.

Yukon Zinc continues to do care and maintenanceof the surface area of the mine andit's working with the Yukon Government to develop a plan to access the underground area of the mine.

The underground is currently flooding and inaccessible.
