3 Strait schools up for review

West Richmond Education Centre is on the list of possible school closures in the Strait region, along with two others from last year.

Jack Beaton, superintendent of the Strait Regional School Board, said numbers are dwindling in the Evanston area, near Port Hawkesbury.

"It's a matter of the enrolment, as well as the condition of the building," he said.

The board also voted Monday to keep two other schools on the review list: Canso Academy and Rev. H.J. MacDonald School in Heatherton.

The schools were on the list last year, but the board had to start the year-long process over because it missed a deadline.

H.M. MacDonald Elementary School in Maryvale is not up for review, though it was on last year's list.

The school board has until March 2012 to decide if the schools will close.
