Accused in Peacock murder makes appearance

The case of accused killer Joshua Preeper has been set over until early September.

The court case of accused killer Joshua Preeper has been set over until early September. He made a brief appearance in a packed Truro courtroom this morning.

Court heard the defence has just received a significant amount of disclosure from the Crown.

Preeper faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Melissa Peacock. The 20-year-old left her home in Dartmouth at about 7:30 p.m on Nov. 7, 2011. Her mother, Ruth Slauenwhite, said Peacock kissed her, said she loved her, and that she wouldn't be gone long.

Peacock later began sending puzzling text messages, saying she would spend the night in the country, though she didn't want to be there. Police traced her cell phone, and found she had been in a car headed north on Highway 354 after midnight. Police have not revealed where her remains were found.

Joshua Preeper, 20, and his brother Dustan, 24, were arrested and charged earlier this month.

Police say a significant tip was called in to them. Both Joshua and Dustan Preeper are due back in court Sept. 7 to set a date for a preliminary hearing.
