African Nova Scotian Music Association Awards honour N.S. talent

Saturday night at the World Trade and Convention Centre, the 17th annual African Nova Scotian Music Association Awards are being handed out in Halifax.

Saturday night at the World Trade and Convention Centre, the 17th annual African Nova Scotian Music Association Awards are being handed out in Halifax.

The gala will feature performances from Gary Beals, Jeremiah Sparks, Cyndi Cain, Ced, Marty & Dave, The Sanctified Brothers, Renny Smith and Uniacke Square nativeJordan Croucher (a.k.a.JRDN), who recently received a Juno nomination in the R&B category.

This theme of this years event, "Celebration of Our Own,"will honour past and present musicians from the black community in Nova Scotia.

The awards show will also honour Maurice Ruddick and Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Brent Williams, who will both receive the life-time achievement award.
