Antigonish police cells fill up after Evolve, IWK 250

RCMP in Antigonishlogged abusy weekend, responding to 72 calls and locking up 15 people for the night.

The annual Evolve music festival and the IWK 250, a fundraiser for the childrens' hospital at the Riverside Speedway, were both underway in the region.

RCMP charged three people with impaired driving and suspended another for seven days.

"Another investigation we were involved in is impaired driving by drugs last night," said Sgt. Brian Rehill. "We had a pursuit with police vehicles involved and had to force the vehicle off the road. Its a small percentage of people we deal with but the ones that we do, its a threat to public safety."

Four people were arrested for possession of a controlled drug, three for possession for the purpose of trafficking and two for trafficking a controlled substance.

Five people were arrested for being drunk in public.
