Cape Sable Island lobster theft investigated by RCMP

Forty-eight crates of live lobster havebeen reported stolen from an outdoor pound on Cape Sable Island on the southwestern tip of Nova Scotia.

RCMP say each crate contained 100 pounds, or about 45 kilograms, of lobster.At a price of$6.25 per pound, it means the catch was worth about $30,000.

Police believe the theft from thefish-processing business happened sometime overnight on Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Last month 14 crates of lobster were stolen from Morris Island wharf in Yarmouth County.

RCMP Const. Mark Skinner saidpolicehave no reason to believe the two thefts are related.
