Nova Scotia's Tri-County Regional School Board voted to close Barton Consolidated School at a meeting Tuesday evening.

The board decided to keep Digby Neck Consolidated School open, but rejected a plan to turn it into a community hub. About 30 students attend the school.

"It was felt that the hub proposal did not meet the guidelines and there were too many unanswered questions," Donna Tidd, chairwoman of the board, said in an email.

A hub school issomething like a community centre, with classrooms sharing a roof with other organizations.

Tidd declined to be interviewed about the board's decision. She did not say where staff and students currently at Barton would goafter it closes. About 70 students attended it in 2014-15.

The board hasn't set a date yet to close Barton.
