Noted Mi'kmawlawyerBernd Christmas is returning home to Nova Scotia torun forcouncillor in the 2016 elections in Membertou.

Most recently, Christmas wasthe CEO ofGitpoStorms, a national Indigenous business firm.Prior to that,Christmas was a partnerat CasselsBrock, alawfirmin Toronto specializing in Aboriginal law.

Christmas was the first Mi'kmawpersonto become a lawyer in Canada.

Hewas the president and CEO of the Membertou Band for 10years.As CEO, the number of people working for the band increased by more than 2,000 per cent. As well,the community's books were balanced anditsbudget grew from $4.5 million to $75million.
