Truro's own Prime Minister of the Blues now has the Order of Canada.

Truro's own Prime Minister of the Blues now has the Order of Canada.

Norman Byron (Dutch) Mason, 66, was named a Member of the Order this week for his contribution to Canada's music scene.

The singer/guitarist says the award comes at a time when things are really happening in his life. His biography is out soon and son Garrett has been nominated for a Juno award.

Six other Nova Scotians were appointed as Members:

  • Wanda Thomas Bernard (social sciences)
  • Margaret Casey (health care)
  • J. Chalmers Doane (arts/music)
  • R. Michael Eaton (science)
  • Jean Gray (health care)
  • Roderick J. MacLennan (voluntary service)

Though not announced until Wednesday, the appointments were effective Oct. 29, 2004.

Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson will present the recipients with their awards at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
