Brad Marchand's low hit in Bruins-Senators game questioned

Despite a 7-3 win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night, a low hit executed by Brad Marchand is gaining some attention.

Eleven minutes into the game's first period, the Halifax native leaned downtoknee-level. He moved in towards Senators defenceman Matt Borowiecki and flipped him. The whistle wasn't blown and play continued.

Borowiecki, who didn't have the puck at the time, made it to the bench and returned to play later in the game.

"It was a simple play, I mean, I was trying to get to the puck and turned up ice and he was just kind of standing there and just turned up and tried to go forthe puck," Marchand said.

The hit changed the tone of the game.There were several late fights, including multiple scrums during a stoppage with 27 seconds remaining that featured all five skaters paired off with an opponent.

Marchand has a history of low hits. In 2012, he wasslapped with a 5-game suspension for clipping Vancouver Canucks defenceman Sami Salo.

Senators coach Dave Cameron wasn't happy about the hit, but avoided calling for a suspension.

"Phone the league and ask the league, that's what they do," Cameron told reporters. "I'm not in charge of suspensions."

Marchand brushed off the question when askedif he was worried the league may review the hit before tomorrow's 2016 Bridgestone Winter Classic in Foxborough, Mass.

"I can't control that," he said.
