Burnside jail corrections officer charged with drug trafficking

A provincial corrections officer has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug trafficking operation at a Dartmouth jail.

A provincial corrections officer has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug trafficking operation at a Dartmouth jail.

On Wednesday, officers with the RCMP'sintelligence unit, Halifax Regional Police andCentral Nova Scotia Correctional Facility arrested the 39-year-old man in Shubenacadie. He isemployed at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside.

The investigation began in July. Police allege the corrections officeris responsible for trafficking drugs within the Burnside jail.

Police say they seizeddrugs and cash during the investigation.

The corrections officer isfacing charges of trafficking in a controlled substance, possessing proceeds of crime and breach of trust.

He's scheduled toappear in Shubenacadieprovincial court on Dec. 7.
