51-year-old man dead after a car crashes into ambulance near Kentville

A 51-year-old man is dead after his car crashed into an oncomingambulance Tuesdaymorning on Highway 101 near Kentville, N.S., according RCMP.

The man was driving westbound around 8 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the ambulance, which was travelling in the opposite direction,RCMP said in a news release.

A section ofthe road between exits 13 and 14 was closed for several hours after the crash, but has since reopened.

The man's name has not been released.

The paramedic crewwas taken to hospital as a precaution after the crash, but they weresubsequently released, according to an email from Emergency Health Services spokesperson Remo Zaccagna.

No patients were on board the ambulance at the time of the crash.

EHSsaid an investigation is underway and it will not be releasing any more information.

It's not clear what caused the 51-year-old to lose control of his car.

There were icy and slushy road conditions across much of the province Tuesdaymorning.

An RCMP collision analyst was brought in to examine the crash scene.
