Catherine Campbell, murdered police officer, to be remembered at service

A funeral service has been scheduled next week to remember murdered Truro police Const. CatherineCampbell.

The service is scheduledfor Monday at 2p.m. in Stellarton, N.S.

"Anything Catherine pursued in her life she gave her heart, with passion and integrity. If you ever needed anything, whether it be something small or large she was always willing and eager to help. She will be deeply and sincerely missed," reads her obituary.

"She was a woman who wore many different hats. She could be the caring, compassionate police officer, the courageous and fearless firefighter, a loyal loving daughter, a special sister, a caring friend, a caring aunt, she was like no other."

Staff members with the Town of Truro were notified of service, which is set to take place at the Stellarton Presbyterian Churchin Campbell's home town.

There is also a tribute walk scheduled for Saturday night in Truro. The walk will start at Victoria Square and head down Prince Street to the Truro police station where there will be a ceremony to remember the 36-year-old constable.

Campbell wasa six-year veteran of the Truro police force who volunteered as a firefighter for the past 10 years

Campbell was last seen Sept. 11 and was found dead in Halifax on Wednesday.

Christopher CalvinGarnier, 27, has been charged with second-degree murder and indecently interfering with a dead human body.

Police are still appealing for witnesses in the case. Specifically, they're looking for witnesses who may have seen a white man, wearing shorts and a T-shirt pushing or pulling a green compost bin from the McCully Street area, up Agricola, North or Barrington streets at around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 11.

Perrin said they believe the accused was the man pushing the green bin. He said police are not looking for any other suspects at this time.
