Cecil Clarke set to announce study into Sydney waterfront development

CBC News has learned that Cape Breton Regional Municipality Mayor Cecil Clarke will announce Wednesday the first steps to bringing a major development to the Sydney waterfront.

It was almost a year ago that Clarke vowed to resign if he didn't see positive community development

CBC News has learned that Cape Breton Regional Municipality Mayor Cecil Clarke will announce Wednesday the first steps to bringing a potentialdevelopment to the Sydney waterfront.

The announcement is said to be a pre-feasibility study into the possibility of the Nova Scotia Community College Marconi campus and the Sydney Provincial Building moving to the waterfront.

Also Wednesday, Clarke will give an update on where the municipality stands in trying to attract a larger container company to the port.

It was almost a year ago that Clarke vowed to resign if he didn't see positive community development by this time.

The statement was made amid questions about the amount of travel expenses he had been claiming.

At the time, Clarke said it was necessary for him to travel to negotiate with companies and the federal government to further port development.
