Confederation bridge, ferries and highways shut down during Maritime storm

The major arteries linking the Maritime provinces were shut down Sunday night as a large, slow moving storm worked its way through the region.

Transportation between provinces closed to all traffic Sunday night

The major arteries linking the Maritime provinces were shut down Sunday night as a large, slow moving storm worked its way through the region.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Highway 104, which links Nova Scotia to New Brunswick, was closed due to poor visibility.Highway 2from Monctonto the Nova Scotia border is also closed.

That followed the rare closure to all traffic on the Confederation Bridge between Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Marine Atlantic was also forced to cancel all crossings between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.The company advises all passengers that when crossings resume, passengers may experience an extended crossing time because of severe ice conditions in the Cabot Strait.

Meanwhile, police in all three Maritime provinces are advisingdrivers to stay off the roads until the weather improves.
