Enfield RCMP say someone took off with thousands of dollars worth of copper from the East Coast Demolition and Environmental Services in Mount Uniacke in an elaborate heist early Monday morning.

The suspects allegedly used a grinder to cut padlocks off the gates at the demolition contractor's facility at around 3:45 a.m., then hopped into a white flat deck truck that was carrying a large copper cylinder.

The unique copper is worth up to $20,000. (RCMP)

RCMP say the cylinder weighs about 1,800 kilograms and contained copper pipes worth up to $20,000.

The cylinder was part of a boiler in a demolished hospital.

The pipes inside are unique because they are threaded on the outside and rifled on the inside, said police.
