Council clears hurdle for Dartmouth waterfront project

Halifax regional council has cleared the way for a highrise and townhouse development for the Dartmouth waterfront.

Halifax regional council has cleared the way for a highrise and townhouse development for the Dartmouth waterfront.

Councillors voted 21-0 Tuesday to change land-use rules, a step that allows the King's Wharf project to proceed to the next phase.

The vote followed a public hearing where close to 50 people voiced their opinions of the project.

Fares & Co. Development Ltd. plans to build a multimillion-dollar residential and commercial property at the old Dartmouth Marine Slips, near the Alderney Landing ferry terminal.

The development will include a mix of townhouses and highrise units, a well as a tower that will be built on an infilled water lot.

Theproposal now moves on toDartmouth's community council.
