Cubic zirconium ring found on Portland Street in Dartmouth

Warmer temperatures earlier this week in the Halifax area didnt just melt snow and ice, they unearthed some remnants of winter.

Every year as the temperatures warm up, possessions that people lose appear seemingly out of nowhere, coming out of snowbanks and sidewalks as the winter thaw takes place.

Halifax Regional Police say that purses and wallets are the most common items to be turned in, while cell phones and keys are other popular finds.

Laura MacKeigan recently discovered a piece of jewellery on her walk home from work. At an intersection on Portland Street in Dartmouth, she looked down to make sure her footing was OK, but spotted something that caught her eye.

I saw this circular thing in the ice and kind of started kicking at it and eventually what appeared was a ring, she said.

MacKeigan hopes someone will come forward to claim it and she will have the owner describe it to her before she hands it over.

Goldsmith Glenn Fawcett says the value of the cubic zirconium ring lies in sentimentality.

It looks like it's been worn for a long time. So I suspect whoever lost it is missing it without a doubt. Like I say, it wasnt tossed away. It's just a nice little ring, he said.

MacKeigan hopes the ring will be reunited with its owner.

I have to find the owner. I just felt compelled to find the owner, she said.
