Dalhousie University bike lane plans suspended

A proposed bike lane for Dalhousie University is on hold.

Halifax planned a two-year experiment on a section of University Avenue from Robie to LeMarchant streets.

Dalhousie University plans to remove 43 parking spaces to create the provinces first bike lane that is protected by permanent poles.

The Nova Scotia government is contributing $150,000.

A local food vendor known as the Dawgfather objected, saying the bike lanewould put him out of business.

Halifax council went behind closed doors for legal advice this week. It then overturned a September motion approving a deal with the university.
