Halifax police expect to lay charge after rescuing two small dogs trapped in car in the downtown area Friday.

Halifax police expect to lay charge after rescuing two small dogs trapped in car in the downtown area Friday.

Two community response officerssay they were alerted to two long-haireddogs locked in a caron Lower Water Street nearSackvilleStreet.

They were "panting heavily and did not have access to any water," according to a release.

Police say the windows were cracked, but the car felt hot. It was 25 C outside.

Using a a coat hanger, one of the officers was able to unlock the doors and "free thedogsfrom their precarious situation."

Police are investigating and could charge the owner under the Animal Protection Act.
