Where to get water in southwestern Nova Scotia amid dry conditions

If you're in southwestern Nova Scotia and need facilities with running water, here are some places you can go.

Argyle area

The Municipality of the District of Argyle has a supply of four-litre jugs of drinking water to be given to residents at these locations and times:

• Wedgeport and District Fire Hall Monday, Wednesday and Friday (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.)
• Eel Brook & Districts Fire Hall Monday, Wednesday and Friday (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.)
• West Pubnico Fire Hall Monday to Friday (10 a.m. to noon; 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m. to noon)
• Quinan and Districts Fire Hall Monday, Wednesday and Friday (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
• Kemptville and Districts Fire Hall Monday and Wednesday (6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.)
• Surette's Island Fire Hall Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays (1 p.m. to 6 p.m.)

Water jugs can also be filled at Duck's Garden Center in Tusket (3954 Highway 308) and non-potable water at the East Pubnico Fire Hall. If you're heading to the fire hall, please call ahead at 902-748-0220.

Showers are available for public use at:

• cole Belleville (84 Belleville St., Belleville): Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• cole Pubnico-Ouest (811 Highway 335, West Pubnico): Monday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• cole Par-en-Bas: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Wedgeport Fire Hall: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Yarmouth area

Pam Mood, the mayor of the town of Yarmouth, is asking people to get water at the Mariners Centre. The centre on Jody Shelley Drive is open seven days a week and most evenings.

• Large containers can be filled at the rear of the Mariners Centre.
• People can shower at the centre and also fill smaller containers with drinking water from the taps there and from other public buildings.
• The municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle are both handing out bottled water. If you require a token and live in the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, the municipality will cover that charge.
• Some schools have opened shower facilities Mood says it's best to call your local school to check.

Barrington area

• Drinking water is available at the Ground Search and Rescue building at 3329 Highway 3 in Barrington Passage. There are also three washing machines set up there.
• Showers are open during operating hours at Sandy Wicken Memorial Arena. The hours vary, so best to call ahead at 902-637-2760.
• You can fill containers of potable water at the Barrington Municipal Arena on Sherose Island.
• The area's four fire departments are giving people water, though not all of it is potable. Rob Frost, Barrington's CAO, says water filled from inside the stations should be safe to drink.
• Fire departments are delivering non-potable water for toilet flushing. Please submit delivery requests through the municipality office at 902-637-2015.

Shelburne area

• There's drinking water pick up (four-litrejugs)Wednesday Sept. 21from 7p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Showers available at the fire hall at 63 King St. in Shelburne, Sundays and Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• There is also a hose outside the King Street fire hall available 24 hours a day. The water is from the treated municipal supply but the sanitation of the outside hose is not guaranteed.
• Four-litre jugs of water will be available for pickup Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• There is an outside tap at Guild Hall on Dock Street. The water is also from the treated municipal supply but the sanitation of the outside hose is not guaranteed.
• Showers are also available at The Islands Provincial Park.
• There's a hose available at theCGC Fire Department in Gunning Cove

Lockeport area

• At the fire hall there is a water hose available, up to 20 litres per day per household.
• Drinking water pickup at fire hall, four-litre jugs, on Thursday Sept. 22 from 7 p.m. to p.m.
• Washroom facilities are open at Seacap Park.
• At the Lockeport lighthouse, there is large container fill up, up to 132 litres per household per day.
• There is a water hose at the Lower Ohio community centre on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
• The Crescent Beach Centre has unheated, outdoor shower facilities.

LunenburgCountyarea

Queens County area

Bridgetown area

• Potable water is available at Valleyview Provincial Park. There is no access to showers or toilets.
