Three people face drug-related charges as a result of the investigation into last week's fatal shooting on Clifton Street in Halifax.

Corey Duane Lucas, 36, was shot and killed in the city's north end on Friday night. Another man, also in his 30s, was wounded.

"We've conducted three searches over the last 36 hours in conjunction with the homicide investigation from the weekend," Halifax Regional Police Const. Brian Palmeter said Tuesday.

"The three searches were one on Willett Street, one on Layton Road and one on Kelly Point Drive in Prospect."

One person was arrested at a residence on Willett Street in Clayton Park at 5 a.m. on Monday. During a second search at Kelly Point Drive in Prospect, seven people were arrested and an undisclosed amount of cocaine, marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia were seized.

A third search on Layton Road, off Herring Cove Road, happened at 3 a.m. on Tuesday. No one was arrested during that search.

A 21-year-old man, a 21-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man face charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. The two 21-year-olds also face charges of drug possession.

All three people were arrested at a residence on Kelly Point Drive and were scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court on Tuesday.

The other five people who were arrested were released without charges, said Palmeter.

No charges have been laid in Lucas's homicide.

"We still are investigating the homicide," said Palmeter.

"We'll continue to follow up on leads and gather evidence and make a decision at an appropriate time as to whether or not any of these individuals or anyone else will face charges in connection with the homicide."
