77-year-old dead, 2 seriously injured in Clare crash

A 77-year-old woman from Saint Alphonse, N.S., was killed in a two-vehicle crash in the Municipality of the District of ClareSunday evening and RCMP say a man is nowcharged withimpaired drivingcausing death.

A 77-year-old woman from Saint Alphonse, N.S., was killed in a two-vehicle crash in the Municipality of the District of ClareSunday evening and RCMP say a man is nowcharged withimpaired drivingcausing death.

The 33-year-old man, who is also from Saint Alphonse, was drivingon Highway 1 inMavillette, N.S.,when his carveered out of its lane and collided with a SUV travelling in the opposite direction, police said in a news release.

RCMP said the77-year-old, apassengerin the SUV, waspronounced dead at the scene.Thatvehicle's driver and another passenger were taken to the hospital withinjuries police said were life threatening.

The RCMP release saidthe 33-year-oldwas arrested at the scene and transported to a hospital where blood samples were collected. The investigationis ongoing.

Police said the crash happenedaround 6:30 p.m. and the highway was closed in both directions for several hours.
