A 52-year-old woman is dead after a two-car crash on Nova Scotia's Highway 104, about five kilometres east of Port Hawkesbury on Friday morning.

Richmond District RCMP were called to the scene in Evanston at 6:16 a.m.

Police say the woman was driving west when her vehicle collided head-on with another car. She died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

An RCMP traffic reconstructionist has been called in to help with the crash investigation. A detour has been set up and Highway 104 will be closed for most of the day between exits 45 and 46.

Around 10:30 a.m., the Department of Transportation tweeted that Highway 104 was being closed to traffic between Port Hawkesbury and St Peters due to whiteout conditions.
