Fatality at Marine Atlantic in North Sydney under investigation

Cape Breton Regional Police confirmed there was a fatality at the ferry terminal on Saturday morning. The North Sydney Fire Department told CBC News on Sunday they had been called to the scene to respond to a man trapped under a commercial vehicle.

A mandied at the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal in North Sydney, N.S., on Saturday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at 355 Purves Street at 10:43 a.m. The chief of theNorth Sydney Fire Department told CBC News on Sunday they were called in to respond to a man trapped under a commercial vehicle.

Few details have been released about the man who died.

Marine Atlantic spokesperson Darrell Mercer said Sunday morning the person who died was not a Marine Atlantic employee. He said he could not provide any other information about the incident.

Danny Cavanaugh, the president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, tweeted a message of condolence to the man's family on Sunday.

Cape Breton Regional Police confirmedafatality occurred Saturday at the ferry terminal.

They would not provide any other details,saying the incident is being investigated bythe federal Labour Department.
